Hellyer, a senior associate at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), said Iran is “very important” for Russia and China, and both nations will want to “very publicly” show their support for the incoming regime. “I think they’re just there to show their deep support and probably to see who’s in charge in in the meantime,” Dr Hellyer told i. “It will still be something that the Chinese and the Russians will want to be aware of, but I think primarily this is about showing solidarity with that regime and deepening that relationship.”
