Dr Matthew Harries is a Senior Research Fellow in the Proliferation and Nuclear Policy Programme at RUSI, based in Berlin. His research interests include nuclear deterrence; arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament; and UK nuclear policy.
Before joining RUSI, Matthew worked for the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, managing its 2018-19 inquiry into China and the Rules-Based International System. Prior to that, he was Managing Editor of Survival and Senior Fellow for Transatlantic Affairs and Nuclear Policy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
Matthew has previously worked as an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna, and as a Research Associate at the Centre for Science and Security Studies at King's College London. He holds a PhD in War Studies from King's College London, and a First in History and Politics from the University of Oxford.
