Samuel Cranny-Evans, a military analyst at the Royal United Services Institute think tank, said the drone was designed to fly over the battlefield looking for targets. “Its utility to the Ukrainians comes from the ability to see a target and engage it almost immediately. This is important right now as much of the fighting is conducted between artillery systems that, in some cases, are beyond the reach of Ukrainian forces. “Artillery that is properly used will relocate quickly after firing, which makes defeating it hard, especially if command and control networks are not working,” he said.
