China-Russia Relations
Sari Arho Havrén, RUSI Associate Fellow told Newsweek: "According to US sources, China is helping in design, research and development, and manufacturing on Russian soil. In other words, China is directly supporting Russia's defence industries and helping Russia's warmachine in a substantial way. Beijing has multiple reasons but foremost it want's to replace the US-led global order and the US' role in it. In this, Russia is a useful partner. Both share a vision of supplanting the West and particularly the United States, and the West-led global order with a novel type of global governance, which for China, mirrors the governance of the Chinese state to keep the Communist party rule safe. Neither trusts the West, and in their joint statement from this year, they emphasise mutual support in protecting each other's vital interests, including territorial integrity and security. Both also support each other's respective indivisible security spheres as major powers, to the extent that new security architectures are mentioned both for Europe and Indo-Pacific."
