Ahmed Hassen

Specialist in security of East Africa and the Horn

Biography

Ahmed Hassen was previously an Associate Fellow in the International Security team at RUSI. His research covers armed violence reduction, conflict management, peacebuilding, governance, stabilisation, demining, community-driven development, community policing, and food security and livelihoods.

He has over 15 years’ experience working in the humanitarian industry in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Somalia, and Uganda. His main research focus is on the security of East Africa and the Horn, particularly the security sector, external engagement with stabilisation and peace support operations, as well as economic security and the relationship between security and international development.

Ahmed held senior advisory and management positions with Adam Smith International, Danish Refugee Council, the UK Department for International Development, Save the Children, Action Against Hunger, and KasmoDev. He holds an MSc in Leadership from Walden University and an MA in Development Studies from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
