Biography

Sam Dunning is a freelance writer, researcher and producer specialising in China's foreign policy and influence around the world. His investigative research has been widely published in the UK and internationally. Sam's work on Confucius Institutes shaped a debate leading to UK parliamentary scrutiny and changes in government policy. His work on South Africa led to national outcry in that country and ultimately a security scandal. In 2023, Sam co-produced 'Secrets and Power: China in the UK' for Channel 4's Dispatches documentary series.

Sam set up and serves as Director of UK-China Transparency, which aims to improve the state of knowledge about ties between China and the UK. UKCT conducts and promotes research on technological collaboration, academic partnerships, the CCP's United Front, and other aspects of ties between the two countries. UKCT is a registered charity. Its work has been covered in the Financial Times, The Guardian, The Times and elsewhere.
