Reader in Religion and Global Security, University of Birmingham

Dr Katherine Brown is a Reader in Religion and Global Security at the University of Birmingham. Over the past decade she has been researching the role of gender and religion in relation to Islamist extremism and has an interest in gender-mainstreaming countering and preventing violent extremism efforts.

Her current work focuses on gender, religion and resilience in global governance efforts in relation to the prosecution, repatriation, reintegration and rehabilitation (PRR) of third country nationals in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. This is part of a larger AHRC-funded project, Humanities for Resilience, that looks at how the humanities in civil society, faith groups and academia can and do contribute to marginalised communities’ resilience.
