Threat of sanctions failed to deter Vladimir Putin - now we must use them to punish him

In the coming days, London, Washington and Brussels need to act together to impose the strongest possible sanctions to hit the financial and economic assets on which the Kremlin relies. If that needs additional legislation, for example to reveal Russian ownership of money and property held in UK jurisdiction then so be it. We owe it to our friends in Ukraine and to our hopes for the peace and security of both our own country and the whole of Europe.
