From a Ukraine perspective, they would have no reason to do this. For the Russians, in the short term tactical level it helps them because it now protects their Western flank. It wasn't likely that the Ukrainian counter-offensive significant forces were going to go over the Dnipro but now it makes it almost impassable for military forces, it would be a very very difficult operation to pull off.
