Tom Keatinge, director of the Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies at the Royal United Services Institute, said: “We spend a lot of time pointing the finger at central Asian countries saying they are circumventing sanctions, but we should spend more time considering whether motor manufacturers in the UK are following the rules. “There hasn’t been any meaningful example of sanctions enforcement from the Treasury and Department of Trade since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Where industry thinks it is correctly implementing sanctions yet the government’s desired impact is not being achieved, we clearly need to fix the policy.”
