Deadline: 20 August 2024
Registrations to participate in the UK PONI Annual Conference 2024 are currently open!
The UK PONI Annual Conference is the foremost UK forum shining a spotlight on the expertise of a new generation, and is a hallmark of the UK Project on Nuclear Issues. It connects emerging and established specialists from across the nuclear sector, fostering a diverse and informed dialogue on the most critical nuclear challenges we face today.
Participants will have the chance to engage with fresh perspectives through panel discussions and debates with fellow nuclear professionals from academia, government, industry, think tanks and the military.
This year's conference will delve into the current state of the nuclear field as well as future trends through panel presentations by emerging experts on the following topics:
- Shifting strategies in European nuclear deterrence Â
- Safety, security and innovation in civil nuclear energy Â
- Emerging technologies and implications for deterrence dynamics and arms controlÂ
- Enhancing the UK’s nuclear skills across the civil and defence sectors
In addition to panel discussions, the conference will feature high-profile keynote speakers, including Madelaine McTernan, Chief of Defence Nuclear at the UK Ministry of Defence, Chris Heffer, Director for Nuclear Power at the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Dr Sarah Hiza, Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems.
The conference will also provide ample opportunities for attendees to network during a lunch and a drinks reception, as well as featuring a poster competition showcasing innovative research projects from emerging experts in the field in an alternative format.

The UK PONI Summer Quiz and Networking Evening
The UK PONI Summer Quiz 2024 was a great success! Held at RUSI in London on 11 July, the event brought together a diverse group of participants for an evening of fun trivia, lively competition, and networking opportunities.Â
Teams tested their knowledge on a range of nuclear-related topics, from history and policy to science and technology. Congratulations to the winning team and to the team with the most creative name. Both received well-deserved prizes for their efforts! We would also like to extend our thanks to all who attended and made the evening so memorable.
If you missed out this time, do not worry! We will be organising similar events in the near future. Stay tuned for more information.
