Our Rolls-Royce nuclear deterrent is looking dangerously rusty

"As technologies go, the submarine-based Trident system is the Rolls-Royce of nuclear deterrence: deadly, invulnerable and reliable. But the constant extension to the operational life of the present Trident boats has raised issues about reported failures in some of the subsystems on board, as well as in the Faslane base in Scotland and the weapons storage facility nearby. Reliability problems tend to become cumulative. The infrastructure of the whole system is in need of some urgent investment."
