IEDs and Military Fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan


Sheila Bird and Clive Fairweather present new research on military fatalities from IED attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan. 

The Taliban are placing greater faith in indirect modes of attack, from roadside explosives to suicide bombers. As troops become more and more tied in to static operational postures, such as stabilisation and election support, IED fatalities are only likely to increase. This article provides a detailed statistical look at IED deaths in the Iraq and Afghan conflicts thus far, and makes sombre predictions for the future.
