A Few Suggestions for the Improvement of the Territorial Force

Some commentators questioned the effectiveness of the new Territorial Force before the outbreak of war

Being a relatively novel concept, there were a number of question marks over the Territorials in 1914. In the immediate aftermath of the declaration of war their training and willingness to serve overseas were particularly troublesome. This article highlights a number of problems with the Territorials’ structure and organisation which might go some way to explain later problems. This holds some contemporary relevance given the current Army 2020 emphasis on The Army
