Technical Briefings on Quantum, Space, AI and Telecoms

Access expert briefings on key technologies that provide essential insights for policymakers and the public, highlighting their significance in national security and innovation.

As part of RUSI’s Disruptive Technologies programme, we have commissioned briefings from leading experts in the field on four key technologies within the UK science, technology and innovation ecosystem: quantum, space, AI and telecoms. The briefings are designed to offer policymakers, researchers and the general public relevant and accessible content that explains the ‘tech’ behind the technology, and its relevance to national security for the UK.

As states race to capitalise on disruptive strategic technologies, RUSI aims to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between policymakers and technology experts. These briefings assess how the UK and international actors integrate these innovations into defence and security, recognising their potential for both strategic advantage and unintended societal consequences. In an era of intense geopolitical competition, emerging technological capabilities – often reliant on global supply chains – are reshaping national security and economic growth strategies.

However, the disconnect between technology developers and policymakers presents challenges in governance, risk and ethics. By focusing on innovation, geopolitical competition and risk mitigation, RUSI’s work underscores the importance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing, positioning the UK and its allies to stay ahead in an increasingly complex and competitive global landscape.
