RUSI at Munich Security Conference
RUSI were represented at the Munich Security Conference (MSC), 14-17 February 2019, by Dr Karin von Hippel, Professor Malcolm Chalmers and Elisabeth Braw.
On Friday 15 February, RUSI hosted a side-event entitled “Modern Deterrence: Resilience Against Sub-Conventional Threats”, moderated by Dr Karin von Hippel. The speakers were Elisabeth Braw, Associate Fellow, RUSI; Sir Julian King, Commissioner for the Security Union, European Commission; Sarah MacIntosh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
On Saturday 16 February, in conjunction with Institute Montaigne and the MSC, RUSI ran a side-event entitled “The Future of European Defence: Friends in Need – Friends Indeed?”. The event was chaired by Professor Malcolm Chalmers, with the following speakers: Philippe Etienne, G7/G20 Sherpa; Diplomatic Adviser to the President, French Republic; Rose Gottemoeller, Deputy Secretary General, North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Sarah MacIntosh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Thomas Silberhorn, Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Defence, Federal Republic of Germany. This was the first part of the European Defence Roundtable series – parts two and three will be held in Paris and London later this year.
