Recording: Terrorism and the Mass Media Launch Event
Launching RUSI's Terrorism and the Mass Media paper examining the literature on the role of the media in terrorism.
An independent piece of research commissioned by London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations Neil Basu, this paper examines the role the media can play in amplifying the impact of terrorism. It presents a theoretical evidence base for improving responsible reporting guidelines on terrorism, while also highlighting the importance of editorial independence and the public’s right to know.
Following an opening by AC Basu and author Jessica White's presentation of the paper, the event featured comments by Executive Director of the Society of Editors Ian Murray and Professor Charlie Beckett of the London School of Economics.
