UK Announces New Border Arrangements
22 January 2008
A new UK Border Agency is set to integrate the work of the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA), UKvisas, and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The new agency will employ 25,000 people and will facilitate end-to-end management of passenger journeys by a single agency.
It is the latest in a long line of initiatives to strengthen UK border controls. Others include schemes such as the Airline Liaison Officer (ALO) network and the Freight Targeting System (FTS).
