RUSI Staff at Commemorations

On Sunday, RUSI Director-General Karin von Hippel participated in a ceremony of remembrance organised by the British Embassy in Baghdad, and later visited the Consulate in Erbil (photograph is with the Consul General, Martyn Warr OBE, in Erbil). Karin was in Iraq to conduct a research visit, looking at the counter-terrorism and stabilisation challenges. She also gave a lecture at the staff college in Baghdad. Earlier in Remembrance weekend, Senior Research Fellow Ewan Lawson took part in a memorial service at Batumi, Georgia with British Embassy staff. The memorial was dedicated to 68 servicemen from the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Indian Army who died in Batumi when the British 27th Division was stationed there between December 1918 and July 1920. Ewan was at the annual Georgian defence and Security Conference for which RUSI is a partner.
