The accidental crash of a gasoline tanker in the US has highlighted the disruption that could be caused to the transport infrastructure should a similar event be deliberately staged. The accident offers opportunities to learn lessons from the response and to prepare best practice for future events.  In general, swift decision-making and good public information services ensured that in this case, traffic problems were kept to a minimum.
