Biography

Dr Rhodri Williams is Head of International Public Policy for American International Group (AIG). He is responsible for advancing AIG’s international reputation as a thought leader on issues of public policy and for developing strategic partnerships with a wide range of external stakeholders, including governments, international organisations, trade and industry groups and think-tanks.

From 2016 to 2018 Rhodri was Chief of Staff of AIG in New York, working alongside the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board.

Rhodri joined AIG in 2013 as Strategic Advisor to the CEO Europe, Middle East and Africa, in which role he advised senior business leaders on a wide range of external stakeholder issues. As Head of Public Affairs EMEA from September 2014 he led the company’s thought leadership and corporate citizenship activity across the region. From 2015 to 2016 Rhodri was Vice President Communications & Public Affairs EMEA, responsible for AIG’s communications and public affairs strategies across the region.

Before joining AIG, Rhodri was a British diplomat, whose 23-year career included postings in Austria and Jordan and a wide range of senior UK-based policy roles. He is a graduate of the Ashridge Business School Leadership Process and the UK Government’s Top Management Programme. In 2011 Rhodri was FCO Fellow at the London School of Economics IDEAS.

Rhodri has a first class Bachelor of Arts degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Oxford University, where he was a Fellow and Tutor in Modern History at St Peter’s College from 1985 to 1990. He is an alumnus of Balliol College Oxford, the United World College of the Atlantic and Olchfa School, Swansea.
