Angus Nurse is Director of Criminology & Sociology programmes at Middlesex University School of Law where he teaches and researches criminology and law. He was Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Investigation at Birmingham City University from October 2011 to May 2013 and was Research Fellow at the University of Lincoln’s Law School from January 2008 to October 2011, researching civil justice systems, criminal justice and human rights.
Prior to this, he was an Investigator for the Commission for Local Administration for England (the Local Government Ombudsman) from February 2000 to January 2008 and worked in the Investigations Section and Legal Compliance units at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds from 1990 to 2000. He holds a PhD in criminality and criminal justice policy from Birmingham City University where he studied wildlife crime and the enforcement of wildlife law.
Angus has research interests in criminality, critical criminal justice, animal and human rights law, anti-social behaviour and green criminology. He is particularly interested in animal law and its enforcement and the reasons why people commit environmental crimes and crimes against animals. His book Animal Harm: Perspectives on why People Harm and Kill Animals was published by Ashgate in 2013.
