Biography

Sir Robert completed a full military career that included posts as Commandant General of the Royal Marines and Director of Operations in the MoD, advising successive Prime Ministers on the response to 9/11.

After leaving military service in 2007 he became CEO of Hewlett Packard’s defence and security business. In 2011 he became chairman of Albany Associates, a company specialising in communications in the most challenging environments.  In addition, he advises a number of companies in the security, communications and banking sectors.

He is an occasional columnist for a number of periodicals and a feature writer for Prospect Magazine; he is a visiting professor at King’s College, London and a trustee of Help for Heroes.
