Deputy commander Swiss international Command SWISSINT

Biography

Col GS Michael Freudweiler is currently the deputy commander of the Swiss International Command SWISSINT, which is a center of competence of the Swiss Armed Forces responsible for recruiting, training, deploying and conducting in all peace support activities of the Swiss Armed Forces. He has been in this position for the last two years. Part of his responsibilities is also to liaise with the joint operational command and the armed forces staff of the Swiss Armed Forces, as well as with the min-istry of Defence and the ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to join SWISSINT, Michael Freudweiler worked for over 20 years in various positions within the international relations of the Swiss Armed Forces. He was deputy Mil Rep to NATO and EU in Brus-sels and adviser to the Chief of armed Forces. In parallel he served as a militia Officer and held vari-ous commands and served in different staffs in the Swiss Armed Forces. His actual position is deputy commander of the military-strategic staff of the Chief of armed forces.  

Michael Freudweiler holds a Ph.D. in sociology after having studies sociology, philosophy and law at the universities of Geneva and Basel. He is fluent in French, German, English and Italian.
