Biography
Dr Ingvild Bode is Professor of International Relations at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). She is also Director of the Center for War Studies at SDU.
Her research analyses processes of policy and normative change, especially in the areas of Artificial Intelligence in the military domain, the use of force, and AI governance. Ingvild leads three externally funded research projects as Principal Investigator: (1) AutoNorms on autonomous weapons systems and international norms (funded by the European Research Council); (2 ) AutoPractices on sustaining and strengthening human agency in military decision-making processes involving AI technologies; (funded by the European Research Council); and (3) HuMach on investigating human-machine interaction in the military domain (funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark).
Ingvild has published extensively in these areas, including in journals such as the European Journal of International Relations (several times), Review of International Studies, Ethics and Information Technology, Global Governance, and International Studies Review. Ingvild served as the Chair of the IEEE Research Group on AI and Autonomy for Defence Systems and is an expert member of the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain.
Previously, Ingvild was Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Kent, Canterbury (2015-2020) and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) International Research Fellow (postdoc) with joint affiliation at United Nations University and the University of Tokyo (2013-2015). She has also lectured at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, Germany (2008-2012), where she completed her PhD in 2013.
