Thomas Barrett

Biography
Thomas leads CyXcel’s Data Protection and Privacy Practice where he will help clients navigate the intricate web of cross-border data laws and the complexities of domestic compliance.
One of the foremost experts on data protection, Thomas worked as a public servant for nearly two decades, most recently in HM Government Legal Department and was the lead lawyer and a core negotiator for the UK-US Data Access Agreement (which was a world first of its kind), and was the Strategic Data Protection Lead (including on topics such as the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill). His experience in shaping national data protection policies and advising on compliance at every stage of the data life cycle and in the widest possible range of contexts (including the deployment of new and cutting edge technology) adds valuable expertise to the CyXcel team.
Beyond CyXcel, Thomas has the honour of being elected as a Bencher of his professional organisation, the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. Where he performs a number of governance and corporate roles including being a founder member of their Equalities Diversity and Inclusion committee.
