Climate Change, Migration and Security in Mexico

Climate change will have profound impacts for Mexico and Central America, reshaping resource distribution, creating new dynamics of winners and losers, and making current challenges concerning poverty and governance more difficult to respond to.

Following up on previous research in the region, RUSI is working closely with the Mexican government and national organisations to develop and communicate prudent and robust policy for managing climate-related migration without exacerbating associated security challenges.

The research outputs will serve as a stimulus to policy development in Mexico, and the wider Central America region, by building upon and mobilizing emerging understandings of climate-related migration issues to deliver practical outcomes.

We will be providing regular updates throughout the project.
