Mr Simcox said Iran, the key financier and military backer of Hamas, has the capacity not only to carry out or incite acts of violence on Britain’s streets but also spread extremist views through regime-linked clerics, charities and educational institutes. He also urged the Government to take tougher action to bar hate preachers coming to the UK, citing the case of a cleric from Bangladesh who came on a speaking tour of the UK despite openly advocating that anyone who criticised the prophet Mohammed should be beheaded. “The main problem is, surely, that some in this country wished to host him in the first place?” Mr Simcox told assembled experts and media at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London.
