Irish military neutrality
Eoin Micheál McNamara, research fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, wrote for the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) that "awareness and understanding of military-strategic issues among wider society and within the political system is often negligible. "For most Irish politicians, supporting national defence is unlikely to create much electoral reward."
