MPs call for database of people linked to ‘dirty money’

Tom Keatinge, director of the centre for financial crime security studies at the think-tank RUSI, said the government should be commended for acknowledging the scale of the problem and introducing new powers to combat economic crime. But he added: “We still don’t have the necessary situational awareness of the risk we face — our radar is not as illuminated as it should be. We don’t collect the same level of information about financial activity as they do in, for example, Australia — we don’t know what money is coming into or leaving the UK.”
