Tom Keatinge, director of the Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies at the Royal United Services Institute, told the BBC that Appleby had “provided the client with the answer that he wanted”. “It’s hard to believe that just because he abstained from the voting, his views were not well understood by the meeting. So it’s a scurrilous approach in my view,” he said.
