Biography

Saqeb Mueen is a RUSI Senior Associate Fellow with over 20 years of experience in strategic, think tank and policy communications. He is currently Head of Communications at Tech Against Terrorism: an independent, UN-backed public-private partnership aimed at countering online terrorist exploitation. The organisation encourages the global tech industry to tackle terrorist use of the internet whilst respecting human rights.

Prior to this, Saqeb was RUSI's Director of Communications from 2014 to 2021. During his tenure, he was responsible for transforming RUSI's reputation as a ‘thought-leader institute’ for defence, security, and international affairs. He led a small but impactful communications team that has been party to RUSI's dramatic organisational growth. This included increasing the Institute’s profile in the global media, developing new audiences, strengthening its brand, and overseeing digital and marketing innovation.

Saqeb joined the Institute in 2001 firstly as an Editorial Assistant, and then in subsequent roles overseeing crucial communication milestones in RUSI's development as a leading think tank. These include deputy editor of the RUSI Journal and deputy director of communications where he led RUSI’s digital expansion, establishing RUSI’s social and multimedia profile and founding RUSI’s blog. As editor of the blog, Saqeb established a network of contributors to provide up-to-date analysis of defence and international security.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London, and a Master of Arts degree in War Studies at King's College, London. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
