Robert Hannigan CMG

During his twenty years of public service, Robert Hannigan was Director of GCHQ, the UK’s largest intelligence and security agency and NSA equivalent. He established the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and was responsible, with military colleagues, for the UK’s national offensive cyber programme. He was a member of the National Security Council.

Robert was the Prime Minister’s Security Adviser from 2007-2010. As Head of Intelligence, Security and Resilience in the Cabinet Office, he was responsible for the central oversight of the three UK intelligence agencies; he was a longstanding member of the UK’s Joint Intelligence Committee, which he chaired in 2011-2012. Prior to that, he worked as principal adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair on the Northern Ireland peace process. He was awarded the US Intelligence Distinguished Public Service Medal in 2017.

Robert is Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, and European Chairman of the cyber security company BlueVoyant. He is a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center, Harvard, and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
