Sinostan: China's Inadvertent Empire

calendarclock - (GMT)

Raffaello Pantucci, internationally acclaimed foreign and security policy expert, will discuss his latest book, Sinostan: China's Inadvertent Empire, which explores China's role in Central Asia.

Based on more than a decade’s writing, research and travel, this book offers a rare glimpse into China’s expanding economic, cultural and political power in the Eurasian heartland. Drawing on conversations with merchants, politicians, diplomats and ordinary people, Sinostan paints a vivid multi-dimensional picture of China's growing influence in Central Asia.

Raffaello will explore how China's foreign policy thrust has manifested itself on the ground, and what it means for those living both within and beyond the boundaries of its 'inadvertent empire'.

Raffaello Pantucci is a Senior Fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) in Singapore and a Senior Associate Fellow at RUSI. He has worked at influential strategic studies think tanks in London, Washington and Shanghai, providing advice to governments, international organisations and companies.

Sinostan: China's Inadvertent Empire, co-authored by Raffaello Pantucci and Alexandros Petersen, was published in April 2022 by Oxford University Press.
