A discussion of RUSI's Terrorism and the Mass Media paper, which examines the literature on the role of the media in terrorism.

An independent piece of research commissioned by London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations Neil Basu, this paper examines the role the media can play in amplifying the impact of terrorism. It presents a theoretical evidence base for improving responsible reporting guidelines on terrorism, while also highlighting the importance of editorial independence and the public’s right to know.

Following an opening by AC Basu and RUSI presentation of the paper, the event will feature a panel discussion moderated by Executive Director of the Society of Editors Ian Murray. This panel will bring together representatives from the media and academic communities to engage a conversation around the role of the media and potential future steps to move this research forward.

The paper will be released on the 19th of March and we hope that you will join us in our discussion of reporting on terrorism.

Tea and coffee will be served from 1400-1430 and the event will end at 1600.
