New Technologies and Nuclear Risks: A Discussion with UN Under-Secretary-General Izumi Nakamitsu

11 December 2018, 15:00
RUSI Whitehall
Invite Only
In May of this year, UN Secretary-General António Guterres launched a new UN disarmament agenda, “Securing Our Common Future”

This agenda devoted significant attention to the consequences for human security of emerging means and methods of warfare, and many of the 116 steps and activities that the agenda outlined addressed related issues: the responsible use of technology; responsible innovation; and advances in cyberspace, artificial intelligence, uncrewed aerial vehicles and space technology. RUSI and the UK Project On Nuclear Issues are privileged to welcome Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, for an roundtable discussion with invited experts on the intersection of these developing technologies with nuclear risks.

There are a limited number of places available for UK Project On Nuclear Issues members at this event, and travel bursaries are available for participants travelling from outside London. If you are interested in participating please email UKPONI@rusi.org with the following information by midday on Thursday 6 December:

  • Full name
  • Job title
  • Affiliation
  • 1-2 sentences explaining how your participation in this workshop would benefit you in your current position
  • Whether or not you are requesting a travel bursary

Selected participants will be contacted by Friday 7 December.
