Examining UK-India relations prior to the Indian Prime Minister's visit to the UK.

Taking place one week before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK on 12-14 November 2015, you are invited to a panel session to discuss the achievements and policies of the Modi Government and the future of UK-India relations.

Bringing his considerable experience as Chief Minister of Gujurat for over a decade to Panchavati, Prime Minister Modi has charted out an ambitious course for India, claiming that it is 'India’s century'. However, questions remain 18 months into his leadership whether he is truly on course to modernise India and stake out its claim as a leading global power. With the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the UK in nearly a decade, this will also be a crucial opportunity for the UK and India to solidify their ties.

To examine these important matters in more depth, RUSI is holding a joint panel session with the EU-Asia Centre. The Director, Dr Fraser Cameron, has recently written a short book entitled Modi’s India, which considers Prime Minister Modi’s impact on India both at home and abroad. The event will be chaired by Shashank Joshi, Senior Research Fellow at RUSI, who will shortly release a book entitled Indian Power Projection: Ambition, Arms and Influence. Other panellists include Dr Gareth Price, Senior Research Fellow, Chatham House and Charles Tannock MEP.
