This year’s lecture will be delivered by Sir Peter Wall, Co-Founder & CEO of Amicus, who retired as Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army, in 2015.

The annual John Garnett Lecture honours the legacy of Professor John Garnett as the first academic in the field of Strategic Studies worldwide. Professor Garnett pioneered Strategic Studies as an academic field at the University of Aberystwyth, the first UK institution to offer it as an undergraduate and postgraduate course. Professor Garnett’s expertise was also much in demand outside the academic community, and he was an academic consultant at the Joint Services Defence College, a member of the Council of the Royal United Services Institute, a member of the Foreign Office Advisory Panel on Arms Control and the British Representative on the United Nations Advisory Board on Disarmament.

General Sir Peter Wall has completed a full career in the British Army, retiring as its Chief in 2015. He is co-founder and CEO of Amicus, a specialist leadership consultancy. He has extensive experience of dealing with British and foreign governments at the highest levels, and a proven track record in the strategic leadership of large and complex organisations.  He is a recognised speaker on geopolitics and military command techniques in business. He is a Director of the General Dynamics Corporation and an adviser to Cyrus Investment Management, a group of engineering companies. He is Chairman of the Policy Exchange, the UK’s leading policy think tank, and President of Combat Stress, UK’s military mental health charity.
