The Great Game Replayed

12 September 2016, 19:00
RUSI Whitehall
A lecture by Ambassador K.C. Singh on the political history and current global impact of the North West frontier.

The North West frontier has for centuries played a pivotal role in forging the historical and geo-political landscape of Asia.

The lecture, by acclaimed former Indian diplomat and commentator K.C. Singh, will examine the region’s turbulent history and how the ‘trans-Indus menace’ is as much a problem today as it was in the Nineteenth Century, but now the ramifications are not only regional but global.

The lecture commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi, fought on 12th September 1897, in which 21 Sikh soldiers resisted a force of 10,000, for which each soldier was posthumously awarded the Indian Order of Merit, then equivalent to the Victoria Cross.
