Estonian Defence Minister on European Security in the Run-Up to the NATO Summit
The roundtable will focus on ‘European Security in the run-up to the NATO Summit,’ and will amongst others address the upcoming NATO Summit, European security, cybersecurity and European troops in Estonia.
Jüri Luik has been the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Estonia from 12 June 2017. Prior to this, Jüri Luik was the Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Centre for Defense and Security. Jüri Luik also served as the Ambassador of Estonia to Moscow (2012-2015), to NATO (2007-2012), to Washington (2003-2007) and to Brussels (1996-1999). Jüri Luik was the Head of Estonia's NATO accession negotiation delegation, and the country's Foreign Minister between 1994-1995 and Minister of Defence prior to that. He graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in journalism.
