Armed Drones in the Middle East: Proliferation and Norms in the Region

This event will examine the findings of a year-long project that looked at the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) proliferation and its broader implications in the Middle East.

The outputs of the project, an Occasional Paper and an interactive website, will be presented by the two lead researchers, Dr Aniseh Bassiri Tabrizi and Justin Bronk, who will provide an overview of the context, methodology and key findings, as well as an in-depth analysis of the seven countries covered in the study - Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.



Chair: Lindsey Hilsum is the International Editor of Channel 4 News, and the author of ‘In Extremis; The Life of War Correspondent Marie Colvin’. She has covered many of the conflicts of recent years, including Syria, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine.  

Aniseh Bassiri Tabrizi is a Research Fellow at RUSI and a Visiting Fellow at War Studies, King's College London. Her research is concerned with security in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Iran’s foreign and domestic politics.

Justin Bronk is a Research Fellow specialising in combat airpower and technology in the Military Sciences team at RUSI. He is also Editor of the RUSI Defence Systems online journal.
