UK PONI Virtual Table Top Exercise - Nuclear Disarmament

24 April 2020, 9:00
UK PONI Members Only
RUSI and UK PONI will be running a virtual nuclear disarmament simulation game for postgraduate students and early- to mid-career nuclear experts.

Please note that application for places at this event has now closed.

The Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) is often referred to as the cornerstone of the non-proliferation regime. It is underpinned by three pillars; non-proliferation, the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and disarmament. Every 5 years states parties to the NPT meet in Review Conferences to discuss the implementation of these pillars.

Progress on disarmament however has stalled in recent years, with many states becoming increasingly frustrated with the perceived lack of efforts to advance disarmament. With the next Review Conference set to take place in early 2021 nuclear disarmament is high up the agenda.

UK PONI will be running a virtual nuclear disarmament simulation game. Participants will represent either a nuclear weapon state, a non-nuclear weapon state or an NGO, and explore the dynamics of disarmament diplomacy. This is a great opportunity for the UK PONI community to learn from the scenario and from expert advisors as to what some of the objectives and constraints might be for the different parties in a tangible way.

We’re pleased to be able to make a limited number of spaces available to postgraduate students and early- to mid-career PONI members.
