UK Resilience: Joining up the Sectors

26 September 2005, 23:00 to 28 September 2005, 23:00

The requirement for resilience in the UK cuts across all sectors of society. Whilst the last five years have seen considerable progress in this area, both in the public and private sectors, many challenges remain for those seeking to build effective cross-sector emergency preparedness capabilities.

The conference will explore the strategic and operational resilience requirements and practices of both the UK Government and UK industry and business, in an attempt to establish where cross-sector capabilities have most effect, in order to reduce duplication of effort in major incident response.  It will analyse the requirement and challenges for joined up sector working, and debate the need for integrated structures throughout all stages of emergency planning, response and recovery.

This newly established Annual HSR Conference aims to address the key issues regarding doctrine, connectivity and responsibility. A joined up approach between public and private sectors is ideal; the reality is far more challenging.

Speakers Include:

  • Mr Bill Jeffreys, Security & Intelligence Coordinator and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office
  • Mr Bruce Mann, Head of Civil Contingencies Secretariat
  • The Rt Hon Bruce George MP , Former Chairman of the Defence Committee
  • Mr Richard Bruce, Director of Regional Resilience, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
