About the RUSI Maritime Conference 2010
The new government has established a National Security Council and commenced the United Kingdom (UK) defence and security review. RUSI’s Future Maritime Operations Conference will examine emerging positions both from that defence and security review, in the context of the UK’s prevailing strategic, policy and financial circumstances, and from international partners.
Following an opening address from First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, the conference will look at how the UK manages its strategic interests within international frameworks, with comparative views from abroad. It will hear views on how UK defence supports other government departments and international partners in support of policy. It will look at how the Royal Navy works with its sister services in the joint environment across the spectrum of defence and security tasks from conflict prevention to high end warfighting.
Over the two days, the conference will provide military and civilian perspectives on how naval forces can be and are used in support of pan-Government objectives. The conference will inform defence and security policy makers responsible for planning the UK’s future naval and maritime capabilities, with the aim of ensuring maximum relevance, versatility and adaptability to achieve both operational flexibility and value for money. It will provide an early opportunity to inform the new government and parliament on issues relating to the maritime contribution to current and future British defence and security policy.
