Energy Security & Geopolitics

18 September 2005, 23:00

Launch event September 19th 1400–1630 at RUSI

The launch of Joint Energy Security Programme (JESP) in collaboration with the Westminster Energy Forum aims to illustrate how long term energy security issues are rising up the UK's foreign policy agenda and what further implications energy security may have for UK defence policy in the future.
The global energy market is becoming increasingly competitive as demand rises steadily and regional geopolitical alliances and tensions are becoming increasingly challenging, with implications for international stability and producer-consumer relations.

This seminar will present a unique analysis of the strategic roles that both the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Defence sector have for optimising domestic and international energy security, and for reducing risks associated with the production, transit, storage and supply of energy.
It is designed to attract representatives from government, diplomats, the financial community, the energy industry, leading NGOs and academics and members of the security and defence sectors.

Speakers Include:

  • Valerie Caton: Director, Energy Security & Climate Change Group, FCO
  • Robert Casamento: CEO roundtable adviser on Climate Change for G8
  • Christophe-Alexandre Paillard: Strategic Affairs Directorate, French MoD
