Middle East and North Africa

RUSI's Middle East and North Africa programme explores security and stability in a diverse and complex part of the world.

Closely linked to RUSI's offices in Qatar, the programme examines Britain's role in the region - and how regional developments affect Britain's security in turn.

Iran's nuclear programme, counter-terrorism in the region, and the ongoing peace process in Israel and Palestine are also central to both the programme's research and the risk assessments that it provides for clients.

The programme also works to develop dialogue between regional policy-makers and their counterparts in Britain and Europe, encouraging broad discussion and action in the Middle East and North Africa policy community.

The structure of Iranian politics Commentary: 18 Dec 2009
Powerful structural forces inside Iran, not individual personalities, have brought Tehran to the brink of confrontation with the international community over its nuclear programme. Hope lies with closer US-Iran contacts - but this will come at the expense of even greater tensions with Britain and Israel.
