Polish-American Relations: Re-evaluating the Alliance

At the end of February, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency officially admitted for the first time that at least six CIA aeroplanes, suspected of carrying detainees linked to Al-Qa’ida, had landed in Poland in 2003. Allegations that Poland might have collaborated with the US on its secret programme for the rendition of high-level terrorist suspects from Iraq and Afghanistan were first made by the media in 2005 and have been denied ever since by Warsaw.1 The recent admission therefore poses questions for Poland about its proximity to America.
