The Horn of Africa: A Changing of the Guards?

The Horn of Africa is the place to watch in 2010. Elections in Sudan, Ethiopia and Somaliland could herald a changing of the guards. Chad and Sudan appear to have moved past the diplomatic frisson of the past; but relations remain tense between neighbouring Ethiopia and Eritrea. Meanwhile, Somalia continues to balance between organised chaos and total anarchy. As South Sudan prepares for its 2011 referendum on independence, there could be ramifications across the region.
