The EU and the Middle East: An Elusive Partnership

With the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009, a new chapter in the European Union’s history has been opened. It is now time for the organisation to establish a more unified foreign policy, which will allow the body to play a bigger role in world affairs, particularly the Middle Eastern peace process, and to become a more significant partner in the Madrid Quartet.
