The Rise (and Fall?) of AfPak

Washington's newest shorthand ‘AfPak’ illustrates the regional dimension to the current conflict, but alienates friends and foes on both sides of the border. Pakistan, in particular, to date a valued ally in the War on Terror resents the catch-all significance. It is also problematic for Britain, unwilling to paint Pakistan as part of the conflict given cultural and familial ties.
